Health and Environmental Effects of Nuclear War

Environmental Effects: Climate Change

A major nuclear war would deposit millions of tonnes of dust in the atmosphere from fires in cities, forests and in the countryside. Some sunlight would be absorbed or reflected away from the earth by the dust, causing a decrease in the earth’s temperature. This is known as Nuclear Winter. This could have a serious effect on crop production throughout the world – leading to mass starvation.
